Year 11 to A Level
Bridging from IGCSE to A Level Accounting (9706)
Firm up the IGCSE method now, so the step up to AS and A Level feels smaller.
One-hour paid trial · Same-day reply · from RM75/hr
Who this is for
- Year 11 students who will take A Level Accounting (9706) next
- Students who want their IGCSE foundations rock-solid before A Level
- Learners who found some IGCSE topics shaky and don’t want gaps carried forward
What we cover
A Level Accounting builds directly on the IGCSE method. This service consolidates the IGCSE topics that matter most for the move: clean double entry, confident financial statements and ratio interpretation. The student then arrives at A Level with strong habits. We teach IGCSE-level consolidation, not the A Level syllabus itself.
- Rock-solid double entry and adjustments
- Financial statements produced quickly and accurately
- Ratio analysis and written interpretation
- Study habits that A Level Accounting rewards
Every syllabus and exam fact on this site is cited to the exam board’s official documents. See exam boards and Sources.

Rate and trial
from RM75/hr.
The exact rate depends on the teacher and the level. We confirm it on WhatsApp before you book. The trial is a paid one-hour lesson with the teacher who would continue: they check IGCSE foundations and teach one bridging topic. After that, you arrange lessons one at a time.
Bridging now vs meeting the gaps at A Level
| Bridge in Year 11 | Fix it during A Level | |
|---|---|---|
| Confidence starting A Level | ✓ | No |
| Time pressure later | Lower | Higher |
| Foundations carried forward | Strong | Uncertain |
When the other option is better: If your child already scores strongly at IGCSE, they may be ready for A Level without bridging. We will tell you after a trial rather than sell an unnecessary course.
IGCSE as a foundation, not a finish line
For some Year 11 students, IGCSE Accounting is the foundation for A Level Accounting. Securing the grade is not enough for them.
The quality of the understanding they carry across matters just as much, because A Level does not restart the subject. It assumes double entry, the ledger, final accounts and the core adjustments are second nature, and it builds quickly on top.
A student who passed IGCSE by memorising procedures will find the missing understanding becomes a handicap early in the higher course. Bridging makes sure the foundations are solid enough to carry across. We teach IGCSE-level content to a bridging standard, so the A Level course itself stays with your school or college.
Looking at IGCSE knowledge more closely
We check a bridging student's IGCSE knowledge more closely than ordinary revision would. A topic that is understood well enough for the exam may still leave a gap that A Level will expose.
At IGCSE a student can often succeed with reliable rules of thumb for double entry. A Level asks them to apply the same principles in more layered situations, where a rule of thumb fails.
So we ask why each entry works, not just that it works. We do the same with the ideas A Level relies on. These are the accruals concept, the treatment of non-current assets and depreciation, the logic of provisions and the structure of a full set of financial statements.
Where understanding is functional but shallow, we deepen it now, while the pressure is low.
Saying what the numbers mean
We spend time on the why behind each topic, and we ask the student to explain their reasoning in full sentences. A Level rewards students who can explain accounting ideas as well as calculate.
A student used to producing numbers and stopping is nudged to say what those numbers mean for a business's liquidity or performance. An able Year 11 student can do this now, and arrives at A Level already thinking the way the course expects.
Topics that must not be carried forward
Students most often report these topics as shaky: correction of errors, control accounts and their reconciliation, incomplete records and the adjustments to final accounts. A Level assumes them and extends them, so we repair them first.
We work them inside fuller questions, so the student practises holding several ideas together, which is the real skill A Level tests. When a student can take a messy set of incomplete records and build proper statements calmly, we know they are carrying real ability forward.
Fitting your child and school
Bridging students vary. One may have strong foundations and need stretching towards the analytical style. Another may be capable but anxious about a few real gaps.
We shape the sessions to fit. If the IGCSE class is still finishing the syllabus, we support that work and add the extra depth on top. A shared on-screen workspace lets the student do the work while we correct in real time, which is how habits like clear layout and careful reading are built.
The common worry is whether the jump to A Level will be too big. We make readiness visible.
After each block, a short written note says what has been deepened and what still needs work. We would rather flag a weakness now than have a student find it in the first weeks of the higher course.
When to start
The natural window is the holiday or lighter term before A Level begins, when exam pressure has lifted. We usually run a weekly session at a relaxed pace, with room for questions. Between lessons the work is reflective: a short reading, a problem to reason through, or a written explanation sent for feedback.
A business with sales of RM250,000 might anchor several linked tasks over a fortnight. A student who can say why an increase in the provision for doubtful debts is charged as an expense is much readier than one who memorised the entry.

Frequently asked questions
Do you teach the A Level 9706 syllabus?
This service focuses on consolidating IGCSE-level content to prepare for the step up. See the board’s official 9706 page (linked from Sources) for the A Level syllabus itself.
When should we start bridging?
Late Year 11 or the gap before A Level begins works well, so the method stays fresh.
Is A Level Accounting much harder?
It goes deeper and adds topics, but students with a solid IGCSE method cope far better, which is exactly what this service builds.
